Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South Carolina
As the losing continues we should become more vocal (for a change in coaches) not speechless!! Hardly the top 10 teams we used to have a few years ago. GO PONIES!!!
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaExactly! Orsini will be hearing from me... no joke. We can't let this program spiral out of control. It has gotten to the point where our recruiting will take a very hard hit, which will hurt the future of the program. Something needs to be done for next season because it is going to be very hard to recover from this.

Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaGave up tying goal I believe in the 89th minute and then lose in OT.
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaCOLUMBIA, S.C.- Josue Soto and Dane Saintus scored goals for SMU, but they could not hold off South Carolina, falling in double-overtime 3-2.
SMU (5-6-1, 1-2-1 C-USA) started the scoring just after halftime as Josue Soto beat South Carolina's Jimmy Maurer to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute. The goal was Soto's first as a Mustang, and the 15th of his career. South Carolina (7-3-2, 2-0-1 C-USA) started a wild sequence of three goals in three minutes when they tied the game in the 85th minute with a Sam Arthur goal. The Mustangs quickly regained the advantage with a Dane Saintus put in his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 86th minute. Ian Kalis received credit for the assist, his first at SMU, and second of his career, and the Mustangs enjoyed a 2-1 advantage. South Carolina's Will Traynor put in a 88th minute goal for to send the game to overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, Jeff Scanella scored in double overtime, the game winning goal coming in the 103rd minute for South Carolina. The Mustangs play at rival Tulsa on Wednesday, October 21 at 7 p.m. SMU returns home on Saturday, October 31 at 7 p.m. to take on UCF. SCORING SUMMARY: 1. 46:23 SMU Soto, Josue (unassisted) 2. 84:03 SC ARTHUR, Sam (SCANNELLA, Jeff) 3. 85:04 SMU Saintus, Dane (Kalis, Ian) 4. 88:25 SC TRAYNOR, Will (CATES, Danny) 5. 102:06 SC SCANNELLA, Jeff (unassisted) "Whatever it takes"
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South Carolinathis is really frustrating. Too much talent on this team to not be dominating this conference.
Remember a number of years ago when schellas had a rare long losing streak in Conf USA due to many injuries. In the end. through great coaching and team effort. the team pulled it out, won the conference tournament and went several levels into the Dance. I do not see that happening this year.
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaLong talk with keeper last night. He is taking full responsibility for the last two losses. His words "I've got to make the saves and right now I'm not geting it done". The good news is, at least he's manning up. The bad news is I think he is starting to think too much out there and not reading and reacting. From a coaching perspective the keeper coach should see this and at least pull him for a game, help him get his head back. There's a more than capable back up on the bench. As much as he wants to be out there and make a difference, if he's losing confidence in his ability with every shot it may be time for a change for the betterment of the team.
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaAgreed- the keeper has to stop the shots and make the saves. However, our defense has been 'asleep at the wheel' too many times and that has resulted in goals that should not have been. The offense has lacked fire power and cohesiveness while the defense has been very porous at times. IMHO this comes back to coaching and mentally preparing the team to do what it needs to do to win. I do not feel this team has been adequately prepared to go out and win games. Just my .02 worth.
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaOur men's record is 5-6-1 overall and 1-2-1. Just sad how this program is a shadow of what it once was.
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South Carolina
Compare our current record of 5-6-1 to the past and it is pathetic. 2007- We were as high as #1 and lost in the second round of NCAA tournament. 2006- We were as high as #1 and lost in the second round of the NCAA tournamanet. Record was 17-2-4 2005-Lost in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament. Record was 14-6-3 A continuation of our current situation will destroy any credibility this program used to have as well as having a very negative impact on our future recruiting. GO PONIES!!!
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South Carolina1-2-1 in conference............ we arent actually in last place in conference..... are we?
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South Carolina
Currently we're in 5th, three points behind S.C. and Tulsa for the last playoff spot. We need to basically win out and hope S.C. drops a game.
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South Carolina5-6-1 is absolutely unacceptable! SMU teams in the past had records where they lost "6" game in a 4 year period. 6 losses this year already and nobody has mentioned how "WEAK" the schedule is this year. If we can’t dominate the teams played on this schedule then there is something very wrong. I have been told that there is talent on this team so the only place to point the finger would have to be at coaching. The program is obviously in decline and this is very disturbing for the alumni who played for this program…
Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaIt will truly be sad if we don't make it into the conference tournament (which looks like a big possibility). I'm depressed and my only cure is more cowbell... and another coach.

Re: Mens Soccer Loses 3-2 in OT to South CarolinaHey great men's soccer, Peruna, traditions that our A.D. doesn't care about.
