Men's Swimming Speeds Past New Orleans 158-140

DENTON, Texas (SMU) - The SMU men's swimming and diving team placed first in 10 of 15 events to defeat the University of New Orleans 158-140 in the first dual meet of the season.
The Mustangs swept the relays, with the team of Pontus Renholm, Hal Eubanks, David Larsson and Thomas Fadnes winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.94. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Greg Doughty joined Larsson, Renholm and Fadnes finishing in 1:24.28, nearly two seconds ahead of second place UNO's 1:26.19.
Fadnes, Renholm and Edward Downes each won a pair of individual events to lead the Mustangs. Fadnes finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.94 and won the 100-free with a 46.80. SMU had two of the podium spots in each event, with Larsson taking second in the 50-free with a 21.14, and Maverick Smalley took third in the 100-free with a 48.19.
Renholm took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 50.80 and the 200-back with a 1:52.31. Downes won the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:54.43, holding off Blaz Korosec who placed second with a 1:55.94. Downes also won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:54.54.
Richard Cornelius was the lone diver to compete for the Mustangs, finishing second with a 261.60 on the three-meter springboard and third on the one-meter with a 219.40. SMU will be back in action Friday and Saturday in Mansfield, Texas at the Southwest College Invite.
