Saintus becomes fourth SMU player on FC Dallas

Jan. 14, 2010

PHILADELPHIA (SMU) - Former SMU midfielder Dane Saintus was selected 54th in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas. Saintus was the team's fourth round selection.

Saintus rejoins former SMU coach Schellas Hyndman, and becomes the fourth SMU player on FC Dallas. Midfielder Daniel Hernandez, Midfielder Bruno Guarda, and Defender Ugo Ihemelu all attended SMU.

Saintus was named First Team All-C-USA in 2009 after registering eight goals and five assists on the season. He concludes his SMU career with 14 goals and 15 assists in 69 total games. On September 30, 2009, Saintus scored a hat trick against Centenary, the first for SMU since Duke Hashimoto performed the feat against Yale on September 24, 2004.

Fourth round pick. He was our stud and didn't go until the 4th round. Remember when we used to have Herrman Award finalists year in and year out?

It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Fourth rounders unless they bloom late usually end up playing a season on the reserve team before moving on to the ASL or some low division team in Europe.

Actually, he was not our stud. Very good player, and probably the best prepared (in terms of his game and his physique) for MLS — he is very talented, but also was inconsistent as a senior — and to say he was "our stud" over guys like Paulo da Silva, Kekoa Osorio or Craig Hill is simply inaccurate. I think da Silva might be too injury-prone to play professionally, but I'd be shocked if Osorio isn't drafted next year ... most likely by Dallas.

With all of that talent just think how good we could have been if the mob boss had hired a real coach to take this team forward. :x I guess if he cans Doh at the end of this season we will have to wait until another 3-4 years before he gets the hint that we need to change both coaches in our soccer program

GO PONIES!!!

We get it. You hate the soccer coaches. Why not just congratulate Saintus on getting drafted?
