SMU Men's Tennis Alum Johan Brunstrom Advances To Third Round At Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia (SMU) - Men's Tennis alum Johan Brunstrom teamed with Jean-Julien Rojer to defeat the No. 8 seeded Marcel Granollers and Tommy Robredo, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 Friday, at the Australian Open. The team will face the winner of Feliciano Lopez/Rainer Schuettler and Arnaud Clement/Jonathan Erlich in the Round of 16.
The win for Brunstrom marked the furthest a Mustang alum has advanced in a Grand Slam event since Richie Reneberg teamed with Jared Palmer to win the 1995 Australian Open. It was the second Grand Slam title of Reneberg's career after capturing doubles gold in 1992 with Jim Grabb.
Brunstrom is currently ranked 41st in doubles according to the ATP. His career high is 36th, which he achieved on Sept. 28, 2009.
