SMU Women’s Swimmer Sascha Van Den Branden Named C-USA Swimmer Of The Week

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women’s swimmer Sascha Van Den Branden has been named Conference USA’s Swimmer of the Week for her performance this past weekend against Rice and Houston. It is her first career conference honor.

Van den Branden collected five first-place finishes in a two-day spurt against the two conference foes. The junior tallied wins on Jan. 22 against Rice, in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.10), 100-yard freestyle (51.71) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.65). The following day against Houston, the Ruiselede, Belgium native registered two more first-place honors after touching the wall in 51.94 in the 100-freestyle and 1:51.70 in the 200-freestyle. Her marks helped SMU to collect two key conference wins.

Van den Branden will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Joe Perkins Natatorium as SMU welcomes the University of Texas to town for a dual meet. Meet time is scheduled for 11 a.m. Prior to that, the Mustangs will send their diving team to the U.S. Diving National Championships in Columbus, Ohio on Feb. 1 for a five-day event.
