Won Deciding Match In 4-3 Win Over No. 35 Tulsa

IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) - SMU's Aleksandra Malyachikova was named this week's Conference USA Co-Women's Tennis Player of the Week along with Marshall's Michaela Kissell. Malyarchikova won the deciding match to give the No. 25 Mustangs a 4-3 win over conference foe, No. 35 Tulsa. The Mustangs are now 7-1 on the season.
Malyarchikova, the 76th-ranked player in the nation according to the latest ITA rankings, won her match at No. 2 singles in a third-set tiebreaker over JoAnne Karaitiana, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3). She also teamed up with Edyta Cieplucha and won the No. 3 doubles, 8-3, to earn the crucial doubles point. This is Malyarchikova's first career Tennis Player of the Week award. Teammate Marta Lesniak earned C-USA Player of the Week on Jan. 26.
The Mustangs host two matches at the Turpin Tennis Center this weekend. First is Conference USA opponent, Tulane, on Friday at Noon. SMU then hosts Oklahoma State on Sunday at noon.
