Men's soccer loses 4-0The men's soccer team lost their first spring game of the season to Houston. No info on SMU site but here is brief description from the Houston site. Guess Tmc was too embarrassed to tell the score.
GO PONIES!!! The Houston Dynamo rolled to a 4-0 win over SMU in the Dynamo's second scrimmage of the season on Saturday morning at the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex in an event attended by roughly 1,700 Dynamo season ticket holders. Cam Weaver scored twice in the first half for Houston, and Dominic Oduro netted two goals in the second half. The Dynamo played without Geoff Cameron, Brian Ching, and Brad Davis due to U.S. national team duty, while new trialists Khadim Diouf, Léandre Griffit, and Blessing Kaku all participated. The Dynamo took the lead in only the seventh minute when defender Bobby Boswell made a 60-yard run out of the back, cutting past several defenders before slotting a pass wide on the left to Corey Ashe, who crossed the ball to the back post for a Weaver tap-in. Houston had several chances to double its lead, with Griffit, who started as an attacking midfielder, picking out Luis Angel LandÃn for a header that went high in the 13th minute. Weaver and Griffit combined to spring LandÃn behind the back line for a chance in the 27th minute, but his low shot was well saved by SMU goalkeeper Guy Logan. In the 35th minute, Ashe's corner was headed just over by Craig Waibel. Finally Houston did add to its lead in the 37th minute, as Brian Mullan floated a long ball to the top of the penalty area, where Weaver chested it down and curled a shot inside the right-hand post for his second goal of the half. The news was not all good for Houston in the first half, as LandÃn left the game in the 42nd minute after picking up an injury. In the second half, the Dynamo switched to a 3-5-2 formation with a different group of 11 players but continued to carry play. SMU actually had the first big chance of the second half, as forward Pana Vasquez, a member of the Dynamo Academy's home-grown player list, rifled a shot off the post. The Dynamo had a great chance shortly after, as Erik Ustruck played a perfectly timed through ball from the back to Oduro. He rounded Logan but just missed the far post from a tight angle. SMU had another great chance in the 66th minute, as Vasquez cut inside from the right and fired a shot that second-half goalkeeper Tally Hall tipped onto the crossbar. Hall then dove across the goalmouth to block a header from SMU's Blake Milton. Just two minutes later, the Dynamo went up 3-0 when a Ustruck free kick was not cleared, and Oduro reacted first to stab the ball into the roof of the net from close range. Kaku almost notched a goal for Houston in the 73rd minute, but Logan made a close-range save, and several follow-up shots were cleared. The Dynamo made it 4-0 in the 84th minute, as trialist midfielder Peter Maciel fed Oduro, who beat Logan to the far post for the final tally.
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0Dynamo finished 2nd in the MLS West last year. They beat Schellas' FC Dallas team 4-0. What's your point?
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0His point is that he's still bitter he or his brother or his buddy or his mailman or someone didn't get the job when Coach McClements was hired. Bringing relevant points into the discussion really slows the grinding of his axe.

Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0Shouldn't 1836 have to forfeit for using more than their three substitutions?

Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0
I posted the informaton since no one else cared to post any soccer info regarding the game- that was my point. Yes, Houston beat FC Dallas but I doubt they did it by playing scrubs and 'wanna be's' for the second half of the game. A friend in Houston emailed me after the game and said it was a real 'lafer'. Totally embarrassing for SMU.
SMUguy?- perhaps you have memory retention problems or perhaps Alzheimers. I have stated many times I had no horse in that race. I guess if I had anything close to an axe to grind it would be with the stupid [deleted] AD that hired an incompetent K-mart quality coach for a program that was continually a national contender. Most major universities upgrade coaches when a change is made instead of downgrading to a coach with a proven losing record. I am constantly amazed that some of the posters on the soccer forum are so happy with a program that has gone from 'first to worst'. Guess they spent too many years with the fball program and came to the soccer program when the fball team started winning. I wish those that love losing would just go to the UNT site. They would have more company there. GO PONIES!!!
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0Actually, I don't have retention problems, and I don't have Alzheimer's, although my grandfather suffered from it, as did the rest of us, for years before his death, so thanks for that. I didn't forget your claims that you had no horse in the race. I just didn't believe you, because of your staunch support of one of the other candidates. If your problem really is with Steve-O for the hire, that's fine, but it always come out as ripping the coaches.
Funny, I don't ever recall a single poster here professing to be happy with the teams' current win-loss records. But most of the other posters seem to realize that a college team usually won't beat a pro team (there's a reason most college athletes in all sports don't make it to the pros — the professionals are better!), and tend to offer a more logical response. The Ponies have lost some games against lesser opponents, and it's fine to be upset with those. But to suggest that the school didn't report the results of an exhibition against a professional team (if it makes you feel better, we lost to FC Dallas, too ... call your caterer) because "Tmc was too embarrassed to tell the score" just sounds childish. I'll stop. If you really have no vendetta against the coaches, I'll believe you. But it sure comes across that way. Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0
I believe your comment that I staunchly supported one of the other people it totally incorrect. I supported no particular individual. I did support the idea of hiring a coach with a proven winning record and national title experience but I had no preferences as to who that coach was. My only axe to grind with either TmC or BE is the fact they are not winning championships. That is not a personal attack, it is based upon their results. I would say the same about any coach that had trashed the programs in the manner that they have been trashed. Of course I did not expect this team to win against Houston. I would have expected them to make a better showing that they did. GO PONIES!!!
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0
Then I remembered incorrectly — I apologize. Maybe it was fueled by your assertion that Coach McClements was "too embarrassed to tell the score." That seemed below the belt, so maybe that helped me mix you up with another poster. Sorry. Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0
My family has dealt with that, too, and it sucks. I'm sorry your family had to deal with it, and any other family that has to go through something like that with a loved one.
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0A total embarrasment for a collegiate team to be beaten by professional players!!! Seriously??? I am surprised that we would even schedule it, but feel we will only benefit from the experience.
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0Not a huge soccer fan, but when I was at SMU 1998 - 2002, we played Dallas every year, won a couple, lost a couple and drawed, but all the games were close....
I do find it amazing we are so accepting of losing a great program...Its like the football program has made everyone so happy we don't care about a former national power in a sport... If a turn-around doesn't occur and you all sit and don't complain, we will lose this tradition at SMU...Orsini is a football guy and as a football fan 1st I love it, but he will leave you in the stone age unless you start putting some pressue on him... Hope to see us back in the top 10 soon...
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0And you think he's monitoring the progress of the soccer teams here? He knows what is said on PF.com, but only as far as it concerns football. Crying here is not going to get his attention about soccer. Find him at a public event and ask him ... then post his answers so we can all enjoy his double-talk.
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0Not to split hairs, but NickSMU: has anyone claimed to be accepting of a great program? I don't get the sense that anyone is happy with what has happened in soccer the last couple of years. It just seems that some folks have an issue with some of the complaints (i.e. losing to pro teams, etc.) But it doesn't seem like anyone enjoys teams that don't win all the time.
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0
I just don't understand people defending a product that has gone from one the of best to middle or lower end of the pack... I am sure when people complain it is harsh, people used to get pissed at certain people on the football board when they would be too harsh, but in retrospect they were exactly right. I just want all SMU teams to be successful, but I am worried about fans becoming OK with what is happening. It isn't OK...
Re: Men's soccer loses 4-0
Hey soccermommy- read the info a little more carefully. In the Houston they (Houston) played their scrubs and 'wanna be's the entire second half. It was not as if were were playing their 'real' team. In the Dallas game I am sure it was the same. In fact, I was suprised by the comment made by SH that his team was always in total control and that they never felt threatened offensively or defensively. Not very tactful for our ex-coach to say that about his former assistant- is it?? Apparently SH is about as displeased with what has happened to this program as the rest of us are. TmC's favorite motto- from first to worst! GO PONIES!!!
