COLUMBIA, Mo. (SMU) - The No. 21 SMU women's tennis team scored a pair victories over the weekend against Louisville, 5-0, and Missouri, 4-1, at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia, Mo. The Mustangs improved to 12-1 on the season and have won eight straight.
Against Louisville on Saturday, SMU swept the doubles point, winning at all three spots. The domination continued in singles as the Mustangs won all four singles matches played.
Freshman Edyta Cieplucha had the most exciting match of the day. She dropped the first set 6-2 and then was down 5-2 in the second and facing match point. Her opponent double faulted keep the match alive. Cieplucha then won the next 11 games to win the match 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Against the host Missouri Tigers, SMU also scored the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (Marta Lesniak / Cieplucha) and No. 2 (Aleksandra Malyarchikova / senior Pavi Francis). At No. 1 singles, No. 92 ranked Lesniak improved to 11-0 in dual matches with a 6-4, 6-2 sweep. Malyarchikova also got a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to improve to 11-0 in dual meets. Ciepulcha won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to remain unbeaten one the year at 8-0.
The Mustangs next match is at No. 33 Texas on Saturday at noon. SMU 4, Missouri 1
