SMU Women’s Tennis Player Marta Lesniak Named Conference USA Player Of The Week
DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women’s tennis player Marta Lesniak was named the Conference USA women’s player of the week Tuesday afternoon. She beat No. 26 Aeriel Ellis of Texas in singles play last week.
Lesniak scored two points as No. 22 SMU fell, 4-3, at No. 33 Texas. She and teammate Aleksandra Malyarchikova scored an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Mustangs. Lesniak, ranked No. 59 according to the ITA rankings, defeated Ellis, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 singles slot. On the year, the sophomore is 19-3 and 12-0 in dual matches. Lesniak improved to 5-1 against nationally-ranked competition. This is her third career Tennis Player of the Week award and second this season.
The Mustangs will be back in action at 6 p.m. against Texas A&M.
