Women's soccer defeats Baylor 1-0 In Exhibition Ryanne Lewis nets goal for Mustangs
March 20, 2010
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU defeated Baylor 1-0 in an exhibition match Saturday, March 20 at Westcott Field. Ryanne Lewis had the only goal of the game.
Cold temperatures, rain, wind and a wintry mix in the Dallas area provided difficult conditions for both teams to play through.
"We played very well tonight, especially given the unfavorable conditions in Dallas today," said SMU Head Coach Brent Erwin. "We wanted to play in these conditions, as did Baylor, to gain experience dealing with them."
"We want to create a culture of winning, and you do that by playing great teams and beating them, and that's exactly what we did tonight," added Erwin.
SMU played into the wind the first half, but left Baylor with only one serious chance, off a free kick, in the period.
Lewis, broke the tie early in the 2nd half, scored two goals in the fall for the Mustangs. Kenzie Scovill and Lauren Shepherd earned assists on the goal. The Mustangs only gave Baylor a few chances during the match, and Courtney Webb posted a shutout in net for the Mustangs, after posting four in the fall season for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs next exhibition match is at Texas on March 31 at 7 p.m.

It's great to start the spring with a result in this fixture - especially considering the difficult elements. Good job, Mustangs!

My computer is always on the ‘fritz’ but that is another story. I haven’t been posting on p-f primarily because I have lost all interest and faith in our athletic programs (excepting football). There is absolutely no commitment on the part of our AD to build successful sports programs at S.M.U.. To wit- the men’s soccer program has gone from a perennial national contender to a level that can’t even compete in our conference tournament, the women’s soccer program has gone from slightly above average to non-competitive, and our basketball program is a total embarrassment. It is inconceivable that any coach would be given a 7 year contract without an escape clause based on W-L incentives and specific conference-level achievement goals. Now we are faced with [deleted] away another 1-2 million dollars until we can get rid of this loser. Orsini should be fired immediately and Doh with him. After finding out about the basketball ‘giveaway’ I cancelled my donations and bequests to the university until positive changes are made. The fiscal irresponsibility of our AD is surpassed only by his apathy in correcting his poor coaching decisions. In short, if he had a brain he would probably take it out and play with it Someone should make the doh-doh bird extinct. GO PONIES!!!
Hahahahaha. Thanks for the laugh, it was a good one.
I'm glad that you think hiring incompetent coaches and throwing away millions of dollars is so funny. Oh!,sorry I forgot you are from St Louis- the home of such championship teams as the Blues and Rams. Guess you are accustomed to losing. GO PONIES!!!

I'm increasing my donation to offset the loss of yours. Good riddance. And when the teams are winning, don't come back.

Right like the Blues who went to the playoffs a record 25 straight seasons, or the Rams who went to two Super Bowls in three years, or maybe that other team that plays in St. Louis....you know, the one that has the most Championship titles in baseball second only to the Yankees with 10 and brings in over three million fans every year in a mid-size market. Yeah they must know nothing of winning up in St. Louis. Great comparison!

If my information is correct the Rams have won one super bowl in the last 10 years (2000) and finished last year at 1-15. The Blues have never won a Stanley Cup and failed to make the playoffs last year. The Cardinals have won one World Series in the last 10 years. In addition, you have no professional soccer or basketball teams. I hardly think that qualifies St. Louis as a championship city (however, it is a nice place to visit). Guess we can just agree to disagree on what championships are. I consider true champions as the Stanley Cup winners, World Series winners, Lombardi Trophy winners etc. Getting there is only part of the game. Winners complete the job by bringing home the trophy. GO PONIES!!!
