Marta Lesniak Selected To NCAA Championship; NamedC-USA POY
Posted: Thu May 06, 2010 9:54 pmIRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) - Sophomore Marta Lesniak was named Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Year and Shahzoda Hatamova was selected C-USA Freshman of the Year, the league announced Thursday. Lesniak (28-5) is the highest ITA ranked singles player in Conference USA at No. 28. She also received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Singles Championship beginning May 26 in Athens, Ga. Hatamova is 27-8 on the season.
Lesniak was C-USA Player of the Week four times this year and the October Player of the Month. Her 28-5 singles record includes a 21-2 dual record, all at No. 1. She is 7-2 against nationally ranked opponents and 6-0 against C-USA opponents. She also has a 24-11 doubles record with a 13-7 dual match mark
Hatamova is 27-8 on the season with a 19-4 dual match mark. She is 2-1 at No. 2 singles, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and 11-1 at No. 4 singles. She went 7-1 against C-USA competition. In doubles, she is 19-9 on the season with a 13-7 dual-match record The No. 31 SMU women's tennis team led Conference USA with five All-Conference honorees.
SMU (23-4) plays Pepperdine (12-1) in the first round of the NCAA Team Championship on May 14 in Stanford, Calif., at 1 p.m. CT.
