CATHERINE CAMPBELL: Ready to take on the best

It's one thing for an athlete to show enough promise to earn an invitation to try out for a national team. But most of those athletes have been competing in their respective sports for the majority of their lives.

It's another thing altogether to grow up competing in one sport, only to suddenly switch to an entirely new sport and still be viewed as one of the nation's most promising prospects. That's exactly what happened with SMU's Catherine Campbell, who came to the Hilltop four years ago as a member of the basketball team. Two years later, she shifted to the SMU rowing team, and in the only two seasons, Campbell has earned two invitations to the USRowing Women's National Team Pre-Elite Camp.

What a cool story. Look, I don't know the first thing about rowing, but the idea of competing for a spot on the national team in her first two years on the water — that seems pretty incredible to me.
Good luck, Catherine.

That's really impressive - great to see someone take to a new sport and excel so quickly.

Good luck, Catherine
