Former SMU athlete wins in Barcelona with 80.02m throw

BARCELONA, Spain (SMU) --- Former SMU Track and Field athlete Libor Charfreitag won the men's hammer throw at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona with a throw of 80.02m (262.53 feet) on Wednesday.

Charfreitag, who won five NCAA titles during his time on the Hilltop, completed the winning throw on his second of six attempts. The 2007 World Champion bronze medalist currently volunteers as an assistant throws coach for the Mustangs when not competing.
