Freshman Juan Castillo Nets Game-winner

Box Score vs. SIU-Edwardsville
TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team defeated SIU-Edwardsville 1-0 in the first game of the Hurricane Classic Friday night. Freshman Juan Castillo scored the game's only goal in the 84th minute.
"It was a good win but a tough win," said head coach Tim McClements. "We played well and moved the ball well. The conditions were pretty hot. We generated a lot of opportunities but weren't able to capitalize until the 84th minute."
Castillo netted the game-winner after being set up by senior Leone Cruz. Coming out of the back, Cruz sent a ball up over the defender and in to the box. Castillo was in position, settled the ball and fired a shot from 10 yards out into the lower right corner of the net. It was Castillo’s team-leading third goal of the season and his second game-winner.
Goalkeeper Craig Hill made three saves on the night to collect his second shutout of the season and second in as many games.
"Craig had one of his best games top to bottom," said McClements. "He was solid and commanded the goal. Any situations in front of the goal, he dealt with. He kept the clean sheet, did his part to keep us in it and then we were able to score."
SMU moves to 4-0-0 on the season, and SIU-Edwardsville drops to 1-2-0.
The Mustangs will face Western Illinois Sunday at noon in Tulsa for their second game of the Hurricane Classic.
