Sept. 19, 2010

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team tied St. Mary's 1-1 Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field. Junior Logan May scored for the Mustangs.

May netted her goal in the 65th minute when she fired a shot from 15 yards out. Kenzie Scovill and Kristin Medeiros earned assists on the play. The goal was May's third of the season and third in as many games.

St. Mary's responded less than two minutes later, when Daelyn Paul scored from 22 yards out to tie the game at one.

Goalkeeper Courtney Webb turned in another solid performance in net, making four saves on the afternoon for SMU.

The Mustangs came close to scoring on numerous chances, including a penalty kick in the 60th minute. Katherine Cox took the shot for SMU, hitting the left post to keep the game scoreless.

SMU moves to 5-2-2 on the season, and St. Mary's is now 6-1-2.

SMU heads to Houston next weekend to begin conference play. The Mustangs face Houston Friday, Sept. 24 and take on Rice Sunday, Sept. 26.

We probably should have won this one, but at least we got the draw.

It's amazing how often teams equalise directly after a goal while the other team has briefly lost its focus.

Oh well.

On to conference play. Now the games matter. Time to get down to business and start finishing some chances.

Go Ponies!
