SMU Defeats Rival TCU, 3-1, In Total-Team Effort
Behind 20 Dana Powell kills, SMU wins three consecutive sets to win the match

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) ---The SMU volleyball team defeated rival TCU, 3-1, on Tuesday night. The Mustangs rallied back to win the final three sets after dropping the opening set to the Horned Frogs.
Dana Powell set a personal season-high with 20 kills and added 18 digs to notch her eighth double-double of the year. SMU's other outside hitter, senior Kathryn Wilkerson, added a double-double of her own with 15 digs and 14 kills.
The Mustangs, who rank first in blocks per set (2.50), received strong defense from Caitlin Adair (6 blocks) and Jessica Oliver (5 blocks) on the night. Libero Sidney Stewart chipped in 16 digs and helped hold the Horned Frogs to a .165 hitting percentage on the night.
With the win, the Mustangs advance to 7-3 this season and defeat the Horned Frogs, who were riding a six-match winning streak before tonight.
After TCU (9-5) won the first set, 25-18, SMU responded with a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Mustangs were led in set two by setter Kelli Becerra dishing out 11 assists and the outside hitters, Powell and Wilkerson, collecting six kills each. As a team, SMU converted on 18 of 45 kills (.311) in the set to tie the match, 1-1.
SMU, who leads Conference USA in opponents hitting percentage (.178) this season, held TCU to a .065 clip to win the third set, 25-17.
The Mustangs closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
After today's match, the Mustangs start conference play with two matches against UAB on Sept. 24-25.
