Men's Soccer Earns 2-1 OT Win Over Jacksonville
Mustangs move to 9-0-0 on the season

Box Score vs. Jacksonville
Birmingham, Ala. (SMU) - The No. 9 SMU men's soccer team defeated Jacksonville 2-1 with a come-from-behind overtime win Sunday afternoon. Robbie Derschang and Arthur Ivo scored for the Mustangs. SMU is now 9-0-0 on the season and holds a 1-0-0 mark in conference play.
"It's a great win," said head coach Tim McClements. "It wasn't a pretty win, but it was a great win. Playing UAB Friday took a lot out of us, but the guys showed a lot of composure, class and heart. We kept doing what we do well and were able to get the win in the end."
Derschang started the Mustang comeback with his goal in the 70th minute to tie the game at one. Senior Josue Soto sent a ball through to Derschang who made a cut at the top of the box and had a nice finish for the score. The goal was Derschang's fourth of the season.
In the 93rd minute, Ivo completed the comeback as he scored the game-winner for the Mustangs. He received the ball wide from defender Leone Cruz at the end of the 18 yard box. Ivo then beat a couple defenders and sent the ball in off a Jacksonville player. The goal was Ivo's fourth of the season and second game-winner.
Jacksonville opened the scoring early with a goal in the 13th minute of play. The Dolphins got in behind the Mustangs defense and sent a cross into the box for Nedim Hurstic, who headed in the ball for a 1-0 Jacksonville lead.
"It was really difficult for us to break them down," said McClements. "They had the goal and were comfortable in defense and playing on the counter. They were very effective at that, and it took us a long time to get the goal."
SMU faces conference foe UCF Saturday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. The Mustangs lead the all-time series against the Knights 3-0-2. Last season, the teams tied 3-3 Oct. 31. Soto earned two assists on the night for SMU.
