Mustangs Rally To Beat Southern Miss, 3-2

DALLAS (SMU) --- After falling behind, 2-1, the SMU volleyball team rallied to win the final two sets and defeat the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs advance to 12-3 on the year and 4-0 in Conference USA play. With today's win (27-25, 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10), SMU improves on the best start to a season in program history.
Outside hitters Dana Powell, Jessica Oliver and Kathryn Wilkerson each turned in superb performances for the Mustangs. Powell charted 16 kills and 16 digs to total her eleventh double-double of the season. Oliver tied Powell for the team-high with 16 kills to go with five blocks. Wilkerson added a double-double, her tenth this season, with 12 kills and 14 digs.
SMU, who leads Conference USA this season in opponent's attacking percentage, held the Eagles to a .139 hitting clip on the night. Libero Sidney Stewart led the team with 25 digs and setter Kelli Becerra tied a career-high with 20 digs. Becerra added in 48 assists and tallied her seventh double-double this season.
The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday with this year's "Pack the House" event at 7 p.m. against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. On Saturday, SMU will hold its "Dig Pink" event to raise money and awareness for breast cancer during the 12 p.m. match against Memphis.
