I hope the volleyball team — like all SMU teams — wins every time out.
But the men's soccer team, which is a top-10 team, hosts South Carolina at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The guys are tied for first place in the conference, and SC has given us fits over the years.
I'll be at Westcott Field.

Pretty big Wednesday for two successful teams.
I like the fact these other sports are coming back and on the road to what we hope will be some consistency.
The atmosphere is changing at Southern Methodist University

Series History: SMU leads 17-12
RPI Ranking: Tulsa - 35; SMU - 47
The SMU volleyball team and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane will meet in a battle of the top two Conference USA teams on Wednesday night at Moody Coliseum. SMU enters the contest on a five-match winning streak and 4-0 record in league play. The match is this year's "Pack the House" event with all SMU faculty, staff and students being admitted free to the match. Grad students must be enrolled in the Sports Pack to get free admission.
MUSTANGS START C-USA STRONG:
SMU remains undefeated after the first four matches of Conference USA play. To start league play the Mustangs traveled to UAB, where they swept the Blazers in consecutive matches. To start this past weekend the Mustangs earned a win on the road at Tulane, 3-2, and followed with a win in their first home match in nearly a month against Southern Miss, 3-2. In each of the last two matches the Mustangs have fallen behind 2-1, but have rallied in the last two sets to earn the victory.
MANNING IN THE MIDDLE:
SMU middle blocker Courtney Manning has helped a stout Mustang defense by providing 1.33 blocks per set. Manning leads Conference USA and ranks 19th nationally in the statistic. As a team SMU ranks 33rd in the NCAA with 2.55 blocks per set.
WILKERSON CLOSES IN ON C-USA DIGS MARK:
Outside hitter Kathryn Wilkerson, who is the active leader in Conference USA with 1,238 career kills, is on the verge of entering the C-USA record book in digs. The senior needs 58 more scoops to rank 20th in conference history. Wilkerson is one of only two active athletes in the league to notch over 1,000 kills and digs in a career.
POWELL TO THE PEOPLE:
Junior Dana Powell is close to joining her teammate, Wilkerson, as a member of the 1,000/1,000 club (digs/kills). The outside hitter needs 53 kills and 89 digs to reach 1,000 in each of the totals. Only six SMU athletes have reached the club in program history.
THREE "D" STATS
SMU has played exceptional defense so far this season and leads C-USA in opponent’s hitting percentage (.167), blocks per set (2.55) and digs per set (17.81). The Mustangs rank 12th in digs per set and 33rd in blocks per set, nationally.
