BRYAN, Texas (SMU) --- Freshman Renick Townsend earned MVP honors on the flat as the SMU equestrian team's 8-4 loss to Texas A&M (2-0) at the Brazos County Expo Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Townsend notched an 86 on the flat to earn her first MVP honors of the year. Joining Townsend, Julianna Fischer scored a 77 to earn the Mustangs (0-5) a point in the flat competition.

In equitation over fences, Marissa Djernes and Jordyn Pettersen each earned points for SMU. Pettersen has won each of her matchups so far this season.

In the team's next competition, the Mustangs open their home season on Nov. 7 against Auburn.

Are Liberty and Justice playing or do they have to sit out a year after transferring?

It sure seems like we are good at equitation over fences, but need some work in the other disciplines.

I can't wait for that home competition against Auburn. It will be nice to see where we stand against an SEC school.

Where does the SEC rank as a power conference in equestrian?

We all know it's the best football conference, but is it deemed a "power conference" in equestrian, too?
