Mustangs Complete Series Sweep Of Memphis

DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU volleyball team defeated the Memphis Tigers, 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-16, 25-12), on Sunday afternoon. In a strong defensive effort, four Mustang players registered over 10 digs to hold Memphis to a .117 hitting percentage.
The Mustangs (14-4, 6-1 Conference USA) won for the second consecutive day over the Tigers (11-7, 2-4 C-USA) after besting Memphis, 3-0, on Saturday at Moody Coliseum.
For the second straight match, Courtney Manning led SMU with 13 kills. The sophomore middle blocker totaled only 17 attacks to convert on 70.6% of her swings.
Junior Dana Powell helped lead the Mustang defensive effort with 12 digs. Kathryn Wilkerson, Kelli Becerra and Sidney Stewart joined Powell to notch double-digit digs.
SMU totaled 13 team blocks in the contest. Jessica Oliver and Caitlin Adair led the Mustangs with seven and six blocks, respectively.
The Mustangs registered 45 kills with a .291 hitting percentage. Trailing Manning's team-leading 13, Powell and Oliver each charted nine kills.
SMU returns to the court on Oct. 15 with a road match at East Carolina. Following the meeting with the Pirates, the Mustangs travel to Marshall on Sunday for a noon match.
