Women's Soccer Draws Tulsa 1-1 On Senior Night
Scovill scores goal with eight seconds remaining in regulation

Oct. 28, 2010

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Tulsa Thursday night at Westcott Field. Sophomore forward Kenzie Scovill scored the lone Mustang goal. With the draw, SMU finishes the regular season with an 11-6-3 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in Conference USA action.

Scovill tallied her second goal of the season when she headed in a ball from Shelby Hartweck with just eight seconds remaining in regulation.

Goalkeeper Courtney Webb was strong in net for the Mustangs, making six saves on the night. Webb had many spectacular stops including a diving save in the 60th minute and a bullet she punched up over the crossbar in the 66th minute of play.

Tulsa tallied its goal in just the fourth minute when Stephanie Aitken fired a shot from 18 yards out in to the far upper 90 for a 1-0 lead.

The Mustangs head to Orlando to compete in the Conference USA tournament Nov. 3-7.

Of course, it's only fair to also mention the nice game by the seniors - Medeiros was a beast in midfield, and Shepherd made the aggressive play which led to the SMU goal and served awesome corners from both sides all night long.

Webb was huge in goal - some terrific point blank saves.

We had so many chances on great corners but none of them fell our way. It was nice to salvage the draw after the team played such a good game.

One more point - you have to give credit to the heart the team showed, especially with only 12 outfield players available. They could have easily mailed it in as the time ticked away, but scoring with 8 seconds left was just awesome.

Good luck in the C-USA tournament.

Oh yeah - it was also nice to send the Tulsa fans home disappointed. It's hard to believe, but the Tulsa fans at the women's game were 10 times more obnoxious than their fans were at the men's game...
