Dec. 2, 2010

ST. LOUIS (SMU) - SMU men's soccer player Arthur Ivo has been named a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer. Ivo has helped lead the Mustangs to a 16-2-1 record, a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a Conference USA regular season title.

Ivo kept SMU's season alive when he scored the game-tying goal with 15 seconds remaining in regulation against No. 17 Creighton in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Following two scoreless overtime periods, Ivo then converted the Mustangs' fifth shootout attempt to advance SMU 5-3 on penalty kicks.

Last month, Ivo was named Co-MVP and Co-Offensive Player of the Year for Conference USA. Ivo received several weekly awards during the season was named the NSCAA National Player of the Week after tallying a goal and an assist against then-No. 17 Tulsa on Oct. 20.

Forward Luchi Gonzalez is the only Mustang to win the Hermann Trophy, claiming the award in 2001.

Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 10. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, where the winner will be announced.

SMU faces No. 4 North Carolina in the NCAA quarterfinals Friday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
