Cooper Named Spirit of Service Recipient

IRVING, Texas (SMU) - SMU men's soccer player Joe Cooper was honored with the Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service award today. The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.
Cooper helped the Mustangs men's soccer squad advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament and post a league-best mark of 16-2-2 during the 2010 campaign. The junior helps with the Best Buddies program, and works with the soccer team and the student Catholic Ministries with their service programs. A member of the 2009-10 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Cooper is also a member of SAAC and has participated with various service projects, such as coordinating the men's soccer team's participation with the Mustang Club Thank-a-Thon.
