IRVING, Texas (C-USA/SMU) — SMU's Simoné du Toit has been named Conference USA Women's Co-Athlete of the Week after posting a NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the shot put during the opening weekend of indoor track and field.
Du Toit automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 17.45m (57'3'') throw. The junior cleared the NCAA qualifying mark of 16.90m (55'5.5'') by over a half meter and bested the rest of the Texas Tech Invitational field by over a full meter. The Johannesburg, South Africa native earns her first Indoor Athlete of the Week honor of her career with her performance.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Oklahoma Invitational.
