Spoke with a DI Lacrosse coach tonight. He said SMU is looking to elevate their program to DI. Is there any truth to this rumor? Does anybody know?

I would be amazed if they moved Lacrosse from Club to D1 sport for men unless they were adding several women's sports at the same time. Also, unless there are other schools nearby planning the same move, we'd be on an island. There are no other D1 programs within 800-1000 miles.

I guess there will be a JV equestrian team not far down the line.
Looking forward to following the softball team too.

Men's Lacrosse and women's Field Hockey will be added with a Big East invitation. Equal scholarships and the ability to share facilities.
If it is a Pac 10 offer, men's and women's water polo would be added for similar reasons. Of course, water polo will probably be added anyway after we build the new natatorium.

I just realized we will have to add men's volleyball for the Pac 10 - so I wonder what other women's sport we would add.

I don't know much about what is normal, but I just checked Syracuse's web site, and they have 55 people listed on their lacrosse roster, and only 24 listed on their field hockey roster.
I'm sure they have a decent number of walk-ons on the lacrosse team, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have to add two women's sports for the Big East.
Rowing might be a good one - they have 49 listed on their women's rowing roster.

You're right - I thought it was club and not varsity.
Maybe we can just add some more equestrian and rowing scholarships.

Be still, my beating heart. I can only hope.
