COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) --- SMU track and field athlete Simone Du Toit placed sixth in the shot put competition at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon. The junior posted a 17.00 meter mark on her first throw of the event.
Arizona’s Julie Labonte won the shot put with a 17.53 meter toss. The event was hosted by Texas A&M at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. Complete results can be found here.
Du Toit automatically qualified for the event earlier in the year with a Conference USA best 17.49 meter throw. At the C-USA Championships earlier this year, the Johannesburg, South Africa native won the event with a toss that bested the field by over two meters.
The Mustangs and du Toit return to action with the TCU Invitational on Mar. 18 in Fort Worth.
