Track: du Toit Named C-USA Athlete Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (C-USA/SMU) --- For the second consecutive week, an SMU thrower has captured the Conference USA Female Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor as junior Simoné du Toit turned in a pair of NCAA top-10 marks in the shot put and discus throw at the North Texas Spring Classic.
du Toit picked up a pair of North Texas Spring Classic titles last weekend in the shot put and discus. Her throws rank in the top 10 in the nation and in the top five in the West Region. She recorded a throw of 55.12 meters (180-10") in the discus to rank second nationally and regionally. du Toit capped off the meet with a performance of 16.61m (54-06.0") in the shot put, a toss that appears fourth best in the West Region and No. 6 in the latest TFRRS. This is du Toit's first Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honor for the season and fourth of her stellar career.
Last week Ayla Gill earned the league's weekly honor for her performance at the TCU Invitational. The junior recorded a winning toss of 61.70 meters (202-5") in the hammer throw.
This weekend du Toit, Gill and the Mustangs compete in the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
