SOUTH BEND, Ind. (SMU) - The SMU cross country team finished in 16th place out of 28 teams Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational in the blue division 5K race.
The runners faced tough weather conditions with winds blowing up to 40 miles per hour. Nonetheless, SMU's Silje Fjortoft brought home the gold medal, her third this season, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:54.
Mary Alenbratt (17:42) finished 39th out of 225 runners. Kristine Eikrem-Engeset (18:05) and Monika Korra (18:16) also finished in the top half of the competition.
The Mustangs will be back in action when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 15 for the Chile Pepper Invitational.
