Mustangs In Third After Day One Of SMU Classic

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team is in third place with 134 points after the first day of competition at the SMU Classic, held Friday night at Perkins Natatorium. Texas leads with 175 points, and Florida is in second with 165 points. Also competing are Louisville (126.50), Virginia (121) and Wisconsin (106.50).
All-American senior Therese Svendsen led SMU as she finished second in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 55.32.
Reigning Conference USA Swimmer of the Week Nina Rangelova earned bronze in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.47).
The Mustang freshmen turned in a strong performance in their first showing at Perkins Natatorium. Isabella Arcila took runner-up honors in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.32, while Erica Donadon placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.97). Diver Sky Corbett-Methot finished fourth in the one-meter event with a score of 230.20.
The Mustangs started off the night by taking third in the 400-yard medley relay, as Svendsen, Donadon, Genny Konicke and Rangelova clocked in with a time of 3:44.48. The team of Rangelova, Eleonor Lindborg, Arcila and Svendsen finished fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The SMU Classic resumes tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 22, at Perkins Natatorium at 6:30 p.m.
