Mustangs Finish Tied For Fifth At Bandon Dunes

March 10, 2013

BANDON, Ore. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs finished the final round at the Bandon Dunes Classic the way it started - tied for fifth. Senior Mario Clemens shot a one-under par round to become the highest-finishing Mustang, tying for 11th.

The Mustangs finished tied with sixth-ranked UCLA. Even with a fifth-place finish in a strong 18-team field, head coach Josh Gregory believes his team can do better, and that they will.

"It was a very disappointing finish," Gregory said. "We hope to rebound in the next tournament in Arizona. Our team did not play to their capabilities and struggled around the greens. Links-style golf did not suit us well.

"Fortunately, we get to turn around and play again in five days. We will be ready to go."

SMU will play next at the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament hosted by Arizona in Tuscon, Ariz. The first and second rounds will be played on Saturday and the event will end on Sunday.

The Pony Golfers sure do get to take some nice trips. That has to help with recruiting.
