Future Mustangs Jackson, Barg Help Lead Plano West To Second Straight State Title
Head Coach, SMU Alum Carley Phillips Has Wolves Unbeaten In Last 38 Matches

April 22, 2013

GEORGETOWN, Texas (SMU) - Two SMU 2013 recruits, Taylor Jackson and Taylor Barg, helped lead Plano West High School to its second consecutive Texas Class 5A title on Saturday afternoon, beating Southlake Carroll 4-1.

After a scoreless first half, Plano West opened the floodgates and scored four goals in the second half, with the third tally coming off a header by Jackson off a corner kick that was dropped right to her at the far post.

The team finishes the season with a dominant record of 28-0-2. The duo has not only helped lead Plano West consecutive state titles, but they also produced a regional championship in 2011, an area championship in 2009-10 and 2011-12 and a bi-district title in 2009-10 and 2011-12. Barg and Jackson are longtime teammates with a friendship that dates back to fifth grade.

Former Mustang Carley Phillips has been the head coach of the Wolves for the past two seasons. Phillips played at SMU from 2005-08, earning First Team All-Conference USA honors in 2005 and 2006. Phillips was also named to the All-Region team in 2006 and 2007.

Wow! Two seasons as head coach and two championships for Carley? Very impressive.

It sounds like she has a nice future as a coach.

It's pretty cool for SMU to help publicize this accomplishment from one of its great soccer alumni too.
