Murphy Wins Hammer Throw, Cvitanovic Third In Heptathlon

HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs finished day two at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships in first place with 28 points, holding an eight-point edge over UCF.

Elizabeth Murphy won the hammer throw, giving SMU its first-ever C-USA title in the event. Murphy posted a 60.03 mark, winning the event by more than four meters over the next competitor.

Lucija Cvitanovic finished third in the heptathlon, scoring 5,371 total points. Cvitanovic won the javelin throw competition, posting a distance of 49.03, almost eight meters further than the second-place finisher and tying her personal best. The freshman also placed third in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:18.76.

Karoline Skatteboe placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run and Caitlin Keen finished 10th. Helena Perez placed fifth in the hammer throw, while Rayann Chin was 10th.
