M-Soccer: 2013 Schedule

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Wed Jun 05, 2013 6:38 pm

The Memphis schedule is out, and the main item of interest is there will be no affiliate members in the American this season.

So, the conference games will be Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, UConn, Rutgers, Temple, UCF, and USF.

The SMU classic will feature Tulsa as usual, as well as UMKC and some school called Hartwick (a D-III school in New York that plays men's soccer in D-I). We will play UMKC and Hartwick.

We will also be at the Tulsa tournament where we will face Ohio State and SIU-Edwardsville.

Hartwick College, former Div. I national champ and home of Herman Trophy winner and great american player, Glenn "Mooch" Myernick. Remember both very well.

Hartwick actually had back-to-back Hermann Trophy winners - Glenn "Mooch" Myernick (1976) and Billy Gazonas (1977). You learn something new every day...

I spent 8 wonderful summers at Hartwick College, and am very excited to see them come here and play. The US Soccer Hall of fame used to be in Oneonta and they would have an U-23 (with ringers) international on the Hartwick campus every summer. It was a great event, just sitting on the side of Oyaron Hill watching Lalas, Reyna and the boys.

Almost makes up for the fact that this will be the first year in four that I have not spent a few days enjoying the Susquehanna valley.

Ah yes — Alex Lalas, the star of a Rutgers team that was ranked fourth in the country, only to see its season (and his career) end with ... a home loss to SMU in the NCAA tournament.

Shout out to Giampaulo Pedroso, Bryan Thompson, John Howard, Johnny Reynolds, Alan Prampin, Marcus Keane, Scott Blankenship, Jeff Stokes, Cody Schroeder, Andy Strouse, Mike Carlson, Jared Sagal, and the rest of the guys (sorry I can't remember everyone — it has been a few years!) from that team who walked into a big, crowded Rutgers stadium and knocked off one of the nation's top teams.

Lot of names there I haven't heard in a while. We had some outstanding players on that team!
