Men's soccer: another transfer

Postby PonyPride » Fri Jun 21, 2013 1:36 pm

In addition to Jacob Speed, the SMU men's soccer team has another transfer: Trevor Hubbard, a defender/defensive midfielder who enrolled at SMU in January and trained with the Mustangs during the spring.

Playing for USC coach Mark Berson (one of three coaches ever with more than 450 career Div. I victories), Hubbard played in 15 (of the team's 18) games last season, starting nine. In his three seasons with the team, he played in 45 games, starting 23 times. A key member of the USC defense, he also chipped in three assists, including one last season.

As is the case with Speed, transferring means coming home for Hubbard, who went to Highland Park High School.

At USC, Hubbard was named twice (2010, 2011) to the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll, was a recipient of the 2011 C-USA Academic Medal (which is awarded to student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 and above). South Carolina plays soccer in Conference USA, but apparently also gets acknowledgement from the Southeastern Conference: Hubbard was named to the 2011 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and to the 2010 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll as a freshman.

Before enrolling at South Carolina, Hubbard was ranked No. 28 on TopDrawerSoccer.com's 2010 National Top 100 ... 2010 TopDrawerSoccer.com selection regional player (No. 3, Texas) ... Adidas ESP (2008, 2009) ... Adidas ESP all-star (2008, 2009) ... ESPNRise.com - top ESP defender - 2009 ... Texas State ODP ... Region III ODP regional pool ... A four-year letterwinner for coach Randall Allen at Highland Park High School ... 2007 Newcomer of the Year ... All-District 21-4A (2007-10), District Utility Player of the Year (2008, 2009, 2010) ... 2009 Offensive Player of the Year ... Two-year team captain (2008-2010) ... 2010 first team all-region, all-area ... 2010 team MVP ... Played club soccer for Solar U-18 USSF Academy and coach Kevin Smith ... Co-captain of club squad ... Helped lead club team to three state championships ... Two-time selection to the Super Elite Discover Europe team ... 2010 selection to the U.S. National Team Market Center Training.

I don't know much about Hubbard (although his background looks impressive), but Speed is supposed to be great.
