Playing for USC coach Mark Berson (one of three coaches ever with more than 450 career Div. I victories), Hubbard played in 15 (of the team's 18) games last season, starting nine. In his three seasons with the team, he played in 45 games, starting 23 times. A key member of the USC defense, he also chipped in three assists, including one last season.
As is the case with Speed, transferring means coming home for Hubbard, who went to Highland Park High School.
At USC, Hubbard was named twice (2010, 2011) to the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll, was a recipient of the 2011 C-USA Academic Medal (which is awarded to student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 and above). South Carolina plays soccer in Conference USA, but apparently also gets acknowledgement from the Southeastern Conference: Hubbard was named to the 2011 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll as a sophomore and to the 2010 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll as a freshman.
