MOSCOW, RUSSIA (IAAF) - Stephanie Kalu has been invited to compete in the International Association of Athletics Federations Track & Field World Championships. Kalu, who earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 100-meter dash, will compete in that event as well as the 4x100-meter relays at the World Championships.

Kalu a junior, finished 22nd in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Finals after being seeded 23rd, improving her time from the NCAA Prelims by .13 seconds, crossing the finish line in a time of 11.62.

This past spring, Kalu was a part of a 4x100 relay team that won two events: TCU Invitational and the Bobcat Invitational. The team consisted of senior Isis Wilson, junior Craishia Washington, sophomore Rachel Scruggs and Kalu. They set an SMU 4x100 meter relay record at the TCU Invitational when they finished in a time of 44.96. At the same event, Kalu set the SMU program record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38, which was good for third.

Kalu has played a vital role in the overall improvement of the entire sprint program, which has been led by former 15-time All-America coach Tony Miller. When asked about Kalu's success and what this means for the SMU track & field program Coach Miller said:

Stephanie Kalu's success is no surprise--her high standard of excellence and unparalleled work ethic have always elevated her above her competition. Her accomplishments are indicative of SMU's athletic program. This August's events in Moscow could prove to be definitive races that jump start her career, and we look forward to seeing her compete in the 100m and 4x100m relays."

The IAAF World Championships are Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.
