Aldrin Campos Named Women's Tennis Volunteer Assistant Coach

Sep 3, 2013

DALLAS (SMU) -- Aldrin Campos enters his first season at SMU (2013-14) after being named a volunteer assistant coach by head coach Kati Gyulai.

Compos comes to SMU after serving as a club pro at the T-Bar Men’s Tennis Club in Dallas. He last coached at the University of Wyoming as a women’s tennis volunteer assistant from 2010-12.

Prior to Wyoming, he was a tennis coach at the Bill Clark Tennis Academy in Cooper City, Florida. He trained and coached state and nationally ranked junior players, along with directing pre-tournament groups and setting up individual training sessions. The previous two years, he was tennis pro for Cliff Drysdale Tennis at the Doral Country Club (2009) in Miami, Fla. and the City Club at River Ranch (2007-08) in Lafayette, Louisiana. While in Lafayette, Campos also coached at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he served as the women’s tennis volunteer assistant coach.

In 2006-07, Campos was the head men's coach at Lamar University. He helped the Cardinals to a fourth place finish in the Southland Conference with a .500 record in dual match play. It was the best record for the men’s tennis program since 1990. Campos also coached three All-SLC selections, and his team achieved the highest grade point average among any of the men’s teams at Lamar. Prior to Lamar, he was the men's and women's head tennis coach from 2001-2005 at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn.

During his tenure, the Golden Eagles won two Ohio Valley Conference men's titles, while both the men and the women were runners up to the title in 2001-02. The men were also selected to play in the NCAA Tournament twice (2003 &2004) while the women went in 2001. He also coached two OVC Players of the Year.

Before taking over as head coach, Campos was an assistant at Tennessee Tech (1997-2001). During that span, the men and women both won OVC Championships in 1998 and 1999. The women were ranked as high as 59th, and the men climbed to 72nd under his guidance, both in 2001.
He began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1993 following a year as a touring pro.

Campos earned his bachelors of science degree in business administration in 1992 and a master of business administration in 1997, both from Tennessee Tech University. He is also a P-1 USPTA Certified Pro.
