NEW ORLEANS, La. (SMU) -- The SMU women's cross country team is ranked fourth in the latest US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Region poll. The team comes off a first place finish at the UTA Gerald Richey Invite on September 14 and a runner-up finish at the Bear Twilight Invitational two weeks ago on August 30.
The Mustangs have been led by performances from the team’s youth. Sophomore’s Melanie Stemper and Shanoah Souza placed first and second at the UTA Gerald Richey Invite, as they paced SMU to winning first place honors.
Freshmen Agnes Sjöström and Tova Magnusson earned third and fourth place at the Bear Twilight Invitational as they led SMU to its runner-up finish. In addition, head coach Cathy Casey has gotten great performances from sophomore’s Holly Archer and Karoline Skatteboe as well as senior Caitlin Keen.
Rounding out the top three in the South Central Region, just ahead of the Mustangs are Arkansas, Texas and Texas A&M.
SMU is idle until it competes on Saturday, September 28, at the University of North Texas Invitational in Denton, Texas.
