SMU starts conference play Friday night at Rutgers! The game starts at 7pm Dallas time.

If I am not mistaken, this game will be the first American contest for any SMU team, correct?

With the slow start to the season for the Mustangs, it will be imperative to do well in the conference. There are a ton of good and exciting teams in the American, so the conference season should be awesome!

It looks like the Rutgers stream is free as well.

Really tight early. No shots for either team through 20 minutes.

A familiar story in Piscataway so far this evening...

SMU and Rutgers are 0-0 at the half.

Honestly, it was a really nice first half on the road from SMU. Rutgers got off to a good start, SMU controlled the middle portion of the half, and the balance was pretty even.

The Mustangs had some great chances through the run of play. Rutgers had a fantastic chance on a free kick and also got a good look off a corner.

Shots at the half are 5-3 to Rutgers. Shots on goal are 2-1 to SMU. Corners are 4-1 to Rutgers.

Rutgers also has a yellow on a key defender.

Go Ponies!

At the hour mark...

Rutgers has had three really good chances so far in the second half, but SMU had one great chance.

Still 0-0.

Wow. Ibarra with the play of the game so far - just getting his fingers on a cross to a wide open player on the far post...

27 minutes remaining in regulation.

1-0 SMU!!!!!!!

Alfred Koroma sneaks one in at the near post on a feed from Andrew Morales.

If we keep giving Rutgers these free kicks from 20 yards out it's not going to be good...

SMU 1, Rutgers 0 FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alfred Koroma with the goal and Jaime Ibarra with the clean sheet in what can only be termed as a gargantuan win for the team.

The Mustangs did an expert job of totally shutting Rutgers down after we got our goal. Just beautiful.

SMU moves to 1-0-0 in American play!

Great win!

Those last 10 minutes were stressful to watch. We needed this one.

Good win, but I wonder if we're ever going to have a relevant team again that can be a to 10 team.
