Young Named American Athletic Conference Player Of The Week
Junior earns first conference award after second all-tournament selection

Sept. 23, 2013

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) - Caroline Young was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after scoring 48 kills in 11 sets to lead SMU to a 2-1 record at the College of Charleston Classic, league officials announced Monday.

The junior averaged 4.36 kills per set during the three matches, climbing to seventh in the league with 3.31 per set overall. Young led the team in all three matches, including a weekend-high 19 kills in four sets against the College of Charleston. She has recorded at least 10 kills in six straight matches this season.

Young, who earned All-America honorable mention honors as a sophomore, also had 17 digs and nine blocks this weekend. She has 162 kills in 13 matches this season, and has 809 for her career. Young picked up her second straight all-tournament award at the Charleston tournament, the fourth of her career. This is the outside hitter's first Player of the Week award of the season, and the third of her career.

The Mustangs are 8-5 on the season, and rank second in the league in hitting percentage, .233, and third in kills per set, 13.22. SMU begins the 18-match American Athletic Conference schedule Friday at Connecticut at 6 p.m. CT. The next home match is scheduled for Oct. 4 against Louisville at 7 p.m. CT in the Dedman Center on campus.

It's great to see Caroline recognized for her great week!

Hopefully the awards will continue as conference play starts.
