Equestrian: SMU vs. New Mexico State

SMU starts the 2013-14 season this Thursday hosting the New Mexico State Aggies at BuckBranch Farm.

This season promises to be both fascinating and exciting with most of the top Hunter Seat riders returning and, of course, the addition of a Western team.

Schaefer Raposa, Emma Roberts, Alex Butterworth, Mary Abbruzzese, Julianna Fischer, Greer Hindle, and Courtney Line all return to the Hunter Seat team which advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships last year. The experience of these riders will give the Mustangs an amazing core of talent both on the flat and over fences.

Additionally, SMU has added a stellar freshman class of Hunter Seat riders with many accolades.

On the Western side, SMU will be led by incoming freshmen Hannah McCain, Morgan Redwine, Kristen Schramm, Hannah McCain, and Jaclyn White.

Thursday will also be the opening meet of the season for NMSU, who have their riders listed in their preview:

Hunter Seat went 7-3 and Western went 3-6 taking three of the five points in horsemanship - including an MVP performance from freshman Hannah McCain.

Freshman Sylvia de Toledo was MVP over fences.

What a great start to the 2013-14 season! Congratulations to the coaches and the team!
