Young Earns Second Straight Conference Player Of The Week Award
Junior is first player in league history with multiple awards

Sept. 30, 2013

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) - Caroline Young was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, becoming the first player in league history to earn multiple honors. She earned the first award in conference play after leading the SMU volleyball team to a 2-0 record on the league's first weekend.

The junior scored 15 kills at Connecticut to lead the Mustangs to the first win in American Athletic Conference history, defeating the Huskies in 1:25, eight minutes before Houston beat Rutgers. Young had 32 kills in seven sets against UConn and Rutgers, and was one of just two players in the conference to average 5.0 kills per set in a match with her 15 in Storrs, Conn.

Young scored her second double-double of the season with 17 kills and 15 digs in a 3-1 win at Rutgers as the Mustangs picked up their 10th win of the season. The outside hitter had a .365 attack percentage for the weekend, and also had seven blocks. For the season, Young has a team-best 194 kills and is fifth in the American with 3.46 per set. She also has 81 digs with 34 blocks, and is tied for third in the league with 18 aces.

After three weeks on the road, the Mustangs return home for just the second time this season to host Louisville, the preseason favorite in the conference, Friday at 7 p.m. in the Dedman Center. SMU will conclude its first home conference weekend against Cincinnati at 1 p.m. There is no charge for admission to all home SMU volleyball matches this season.

I went to the SMU @ Rutgers game. #8 for SMU was hammering the ball, drilling some serious spikes. turns out it was Caroline Young. She is a very good spiker.

the Rutgers game presentation was terrible. some loud mouth on the PA system announcing every substitution, point winner, total running score. never shut up. played very loud crappy music.
families with kids left right away. I found one SMU player's family at the game, making us about 1/2 dozen SMU fans. We cheered normal, not obnoxious. the Rutgers fans NEVER cheered nor acknowledge a point or anything. Rutgers crowd was silent, over 200+ people. I hope SMU's volleyball presentation is not like this. I won't go back to a Rutgers game, just unpleasant.
