Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Fri Oct 04, 2013 6:41 pm

The Louisville Cardinals athletic department concludes its mini-tour of the SMU athletic facilities Sunday night with the men's soccer team facing SMU at Westcott Field. Start time is 7pm.

The Mustangs are undefeated with a 1-0-0 record in American play this season (2-7-0 overall).

No. 17 Louisville is 6-2-1 (2-0-0 American). The Cardinals played to a 0-0 draw at Ohio State Wednesday.

I love the undefeated tag. I hope the football team sees the light and realizes that conference
is everything. It's been a really rough start for the men's team and they need something to hang their hat on, conference could be that thing.

Hope they do it Sunday.

A bit off-topic, but related to two recent high-profile SMU opponents...

Hartwick defeated Akron 2-0 tonight - in Akron! - ending the 49-game conference unbeaten streak for the Zips.

If anyone at the game is on PFs, updates would be appreciated.

Was the soccer team supposed to be good this year?

The team has lots of skill and pace but, in my opinion, no structure. Physical and organized teams should have no problem beating SMU. I also think we are in the worst conference for the type of team we have.

Luck is not the only element involved, of course, but it has been involved in an unusually high number of games this year. Last night was just the second loss by more than 1 goal, and at least 2 or 3 games were decided on a single mistake. Some years, you get those mistakes made by the other team, and you have a great year -- it's part of what makes soccer great. This year, we're not getting them, but this team is a lot better than the record. I'm not even sure this year's team isn't better than last year's, although that sounds weird considering the records.

You might well be right about last years team, but I don't believe that luck is the problem. I will confess that the only game I have seen is the Hartwick game, but from what I saw there this team is not headed in the right direction. Luck smiled on SMU that night for sure.
