Oct. 7, 2013
ERIN, Wisc. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs men's golf team remained in second after day two at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, and heads into the final round at even par overall.
Sophomore Bryson Dechambeau recorded three birdies and shot a one-under 71 to tie himself for the lead with Patrick Rodgers of Stanford. Harry Higgs sits just two shots off the lead at two-under par after two rounds. Higgs started his day with two birdies to take the overall lead, but then dropped two shots on holes three and four.
Austin Smotherman carded an even round to move into the top 20, while freshman Andrew Buchanan and individual competitor Ryan Burgess fired solid rounds of 73. Buchanan earned back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes and totaled three for the day in the second round of his collegiate career.
"We had a very solid day in tough, windy conditions," Head Coach Josh Gregory said. "It will be a great opportunity for us to be in the final group of the day and see what we can do."
Stanford holds an 11-stroke edge on the team leaderboard after shooting three-under par as a team.
