Nov. 8, 2013

DALLAS (SMU) - Avery Acker was named one of six NCAA Division I volleyball players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for District 7, officials announced. The sophomore has a 3.95 GPA in business, and has started all but one match for the Mustangs this season.

Acker is second in the American Athletic Conference and 33rd in the NCAA with 11.01 assists per set, and needs just 86 more assists this season to become the sixth player in program history with 1,000 assists in a single season. As a freshman, she was named to the Commissioner's Honor and earned the Commissioner's Academic Medal in Conference USA.

The Poth, Texas, native recorded a career-high 57 assists in a win against Davidson in the SMU Invitational earlier in the season, and her 443 assists in league matches leads the conference. She also has nine double-doubles, including a career-high 17 digs and 51 assists in a win at Rutgers. She has finished with at least 50 assists five times this season, including two American matches.

On the season, Acker has 914 assists, 197 digs, 50 blocks and 40 kills. She has guided the Mustangs to a 16-8 record overall and an 8-3 mark in American matches. SMU plays five of its last seven matches on the road, beginning today at 3 p.m. CT against Cincinnati.
