Acker Earns All-Region Honorable Mention
Sophomore setter sixth Mustang honored in last five years

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU) - Avery Acker was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I All-Southeast Region team, marking the fifth straight year an SMU player has been selected. The sophomore setter earned honorable mention, and was one of just four American Athletic Conference players honored among the 10 regions.
Acker led The American in conference matches, averaging 11.56 assists per set, and is second in the league and 25th in the NCAA with 11.21 per set overall. She finished the season with 1,199, ranking ninth in a single season at SMU. She was also second on the team with 264 digs, recording a team-high 12 double-doubles. She had a career-high 57 assists in four sets against Davidson, and a career-high 17 digs in four sets at Rutgers, posting double-doubles in both matches.
The Poth, Texas, native finished the season with 54 kills, hitting .298, and recorded 65 blocks, including three solo blocks. Acker was named Setter of the Year in the American Athletic Conference, and earned first team all-conference accolades. She also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
The Mustangs finished second in the inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference, going 14-4 in league matches, and were 22-9 overall. SMU posted a 10-2 mark in home matches at the Dedman Center on campus, and will return to newly-renovated Moody Coliseum for the 2014 season.
