Klein Finishes 11th In 1-Meter Dive At U.S. Diving National Finals
The Finals Are Being Held In Austin, Texas

Dec. 17, 2013

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) – Freshman diver Bryce Klein finished 11th (320.10) in the 1-meter dive on day one of the U.S. Diving National Finals in Austin, Texas.

“Bryce dove very well today,” head diving coach Jim Stillson said. “He has been limited in practice this fall due to various injuries, so I am really pleased to see him compete at such a high level.”

Klein’s score finished just 2.25 points behind USC sophomore Collin Pollard who placed 10th to earn himself a spot in the finals later this week.

Two weeks ago at the Texas A&M Invitational, Klein placed seventh in the 1-meter dive (310.8) and ninth in the 3-meter (322.8) dive as he competed in the first two collegiate events of his career.

Prior to his arrival on the Hilltop, Klein was a four-time high school All-America selection and was a USA Diving Junior National Champion in the three-meter dive in 2012. In addition, he was a finalist at the 2012 Olympic trials, finished sixth in the 1-meter dive at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships among many other accolades.

Klein is the son of Krista Wilson Klein, who was an All-America selection and a two-time NCAA Championship and six-time Southwest Conference Champion at SMU. During her career, she also was a three-time U.S. Senior National Champion and member of the United States National Diving Team from 1988-94. She was the winner of the 1991 NCAA Diver of the Year Award, the 1990 and 1991 Dallas All-Sports Association Champions Award, the 1990, 1991 SWC Scholar/Athlete award, the 1991 GTE Scholar/Athlete award, the 1991 Southern Methodist University Scholar/Athlete award and the 1991 Texas woman of the year award, the 1991 NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship award.

Klein returns to action tomorrow when he competes in the preliminary round of the 3-meter dive on day two of the U.S. Diving National Finals.
