Equestrian: SMU at New Mexico State

SMU starts the spring portion of the season Saturday in Las Cruces against No. 5 New Mexico State.

The Mustangs defeated NMSU 10-9 earlier this season at BuckBranch Farm the first combination Hunter Seat and Western meet in SMU program history.

The Mustangs actually had a really nice day, with a 1501-1433.5 advantage on aggregate score.

SMU points:

Fences - Schaefer Raposa, Emma Roberts (Julie Fischer had a tie)
Flat - Greer Hindle, Emma Roberts
Horsemanship - Morgan Redwine (MOP) (Courtney Line had a tie)
Reining - Jaclyn White, Hannah McCain

SMU will be in Fresno next weekend to face Fresno State and Baylor.

NMSU really brought it over fences today. If we go our usual 4-1 over fences and get the tied point in horsemanship we win on the aggregate score tiebreaker at 10-10.

Meets like today really show how competitive collegiate equestrian is at this level.

"We won in raw score in hunterseat, western and overall today, which is very respectable," head coach Natalie Burton said. "Taking a young team on the road is always challenging, but I thought that we executed very well as a team today, and rode mistake free. That'll give us some confidence when we head to California next week."
