"It's an exciting time of year," head coach Natalie Burton said. "You never know when you add a new program (western), how you're going to stack up against opponents throughout the season. I'm so excited that we made it to Nationals with a new western team. They've really come along as the year has progressed. I think our riders are very excited about this opportunity. They have a bit of a chip on their shoulder coming in, and know they have a lot to prove."

Fences finished 2-2.

SMU leads 8-4 overall with only horsemanship remaining.

The Mustangs just need one more half point in horsemanship to advance to the quarterfinals.

Julie Fischer and Courtney Line with doubles today!

SMU release:

http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/w-equest/recaps/041714aac.html

"It was an interesting day," head coach Natalie Burton said. "We really dominated in some areas where we've been weak this year. That's a great thing. It's nice to look forward to tomorrow with the confidence that we gained from today's win."

"I'm blown away by how well we did today," Burton said. "Hunter seat did what it had to do, and I would expect nothing less from them, but western did above and beyond what was expected. I don't think the girls have let it sink in how big of a step a first-year western team made today. With that said, we have to brush off this win, and get refocused for tomorrow."
