PALM COAST, Fla. (SMU) - Sophomore Jenny Haglund shot a four-over 76, good for fourth place on the individual leaderboard, to lead the SMU women's golf team to a 27-over 315 in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday at the Hammock Beach Ocean Course.

"We fought really well on the golf course today," head coach Jeanne Sutherland said. "It was a very tough day for conditions, with 30 mile-per-hour winds on the back nine. I thought we had a very good attitude about our play on the back nine. We lost a couple of shots from 11-15, but we closed the round very well."

Haglund is just two strokes off the leader, Cincinnati's Olivia Dose (74), after an even-par front nine and a four-over back nine in her opening round. The Karlstad, Sweden, native holed two birdies on the day.

Senior Maria Elena Villamil carded a seven-over 79, and will start tomorrow's second round in 13th. Junior Jennifer Park and sophomore Alexandra Rossi turned in a pair of eight-over 80s (15th place) in Sunday's first round, while freshman Katie Page turned in a 10-over 82 (24th place) in her opening 18 holes of the conference championship.

No. 18 UCF is in first on the team leaderboard after the first round, eight strokes ahead of the Mustangs after a 19-over 307 on Sunday.
